Joke Caimo (they/them/she/her) is an artist and inventor of participatory instruments and cyborg tools. They research how collective energy, intimacy and physiological rhythms such as breath, excitement and pleasure can become forms of communication. Co-initiator of Samenschool (Borgerhout) and the trans-feminist hacklab T_Cyberhol.
Long bio
Joke Caimo (born 1987, Leuven) is an undisciplined artivist, media artist and inventor of objects and instruments. Their work lies at the intersection of performance, music, product design, installation and the digital world. With self-made instruments and platforms such as the MOODY® excitement earring, the Human Organ Concerto, Breathing Sirenas and Fluister, they explore “the collective” versus “the inner self” and invite the audience to become part of the work: breathing, singing, whispering and feeling together.
Their work has been shown at IKOB (Eupen), Medialab Matadero (Madrid), Spektrum (Berlin), Pukkelpop ThinkTank, S.M.A.K. (Ghent) and Q-O2 (Brussels). Joke holds an Educational Master in Visual Arts (2025). They are co-initiator of Samenschool, an artist-run community centre and print studio in Borgerhout, co-initiate the trans-feminist hacklab T_Cyberhol with ooooo, are part of the sound and media art atelier toitoiDrome, make the radio show TRASHKOT on Radio Centraal, and work with the collective Exciting Research.
